Having a solid morning routine in place will help to make your day feel much more productive. By having routines in place and sticking with them, in turn it will turn into habits. More so, when you complete tasks this will give you a sense of accomplishment and the motivation to keep going. The main reason behind having a morning routine is so you can focus on yourself and those things that spark joy in your life. You could work on a hobby you enjoy or even something you are passionate about. Be persistent and keep going after your dreams, never let anyone discourage you.

If you have kids then you already know how hard it is being a mom in general this day and age. In order to save our sanity, whatever is salvageable that is, we need to focus on creating a little bit of alone time everyday to work on ourselves and/or achieving a goal you are working towards. Just because we are moms whether that may be single or married, It doesn’t mean we should give up everything we once loved and were passionate about before having children. The key is finding a balance between your passions and hobbies and your everyday responsibilities.

By carving out time every morning to work on our needs first, you will feel much more satisfied in general. Then afterwards you can start tackling your daily cleaning routines and anything else that is scheduled for that day ahead.

Most importantly, if your a sahm or working from home with kids due to the coronavirus pandemic / stay-at-home quarantine that’s in place, you are more then likely loosing your shit as we speak. On top of our never ending to do lists we have the mandatory distance learning that our kids do not want any parts of. At least mine put up a fight every single freaking day. My kids think its summer vacation and therefore want to stay up all night and play fortnight.

  1. Have A Nightly Routine In Place.

Over the past few years I’ve been trying to wake up earlier with no success. I just recently stumbled on a post from another blogger about sleeping schedules and how your body has 90 minute sleep cycles throughout the duration of your sleep cycle.

This actually makes a lot of sense and will help to explain why sometimes I wake up still tired and fall back asleep, while other times I can wake right up without feeling tired. You need to also factor in that everyone has different sleep patterns and no two are the same. It’s not about going to bed super early and waking up at 4-5am, it’s about the quality of sleep plus the amount of sleep your body needs regardless of what time you went to bed.

  2. Get The Appropriate Amount Of Sleep Every Night.

They say that your routine before bed is crucial to how you wake up. Limit your screen time, clean high traffic areas before bed such as the kitchen and living areas. Make sure to have clean clothes for yourself and family and have them ready for the morning. This will lessen the stress of waking up when your home is in order.

  3. Set Your Alarms Before Bed.

If you are a heavy sleeper such as myself I highly suggest you use something other then or even with your phone alarm. These days there are so many amazing alarm apps that are geared towards heavy sleepers.

If you are using a physical alarm clock, make sure to put it across the bedroom. This will ensure that you get up out of bed and turn it off, this will deter you from hitting the snooze button.

  4. Do Not Hit Snooze.

I know that this suggestion is easier said then done. I do wish I was one of them people who will pop up out of bed without having to use a alarm. In all reality this isn’t me nor do I think it ever will be. If you can deter yourself from hitting the snooze button this is better for your body.

  5. Open Up The Blinds And Let The Sunlight In Right After Waking Up.

Open up the blinds right after waking up. The natural sunlight will stimulate you so you will not go back to sleep.

  6. Make Your Bed.

Making your bed after opening your blinds is another great trick to stay awake, especially if you are not a morning person. You may be thinking what’s the big deal if my bed is made or not? The repetitiveness of the task does create habit. In the book, Make Your Bed explains the reasoning behind this method. Doing this simple repetitive task everyday is another step closer to productivity.

  7. Get Dressed To Shoes & Brush Your Teeth.

If you never heard of Fly Lady, you definitely need to check out her website here. She talks about the importance of getting dressed to shoes every single morning and how it helps to get yourself and stay motivated.
Her website is filled with many resources for tackling a messy and overwhelming home along with inspiration for zones, daily routines and worksheets.

  8. Plan Out Your Day.

This may not seem too important but planning out your tasks is essential to having a productive day everyday. Whether you are using some sort of paper planner, notebook or phone app, planning your day will create routine.

I have tried many apps over the years but nothing ever stuck like using pen and paper. My favorite planner is the Erin Condren Vertical Neutral Life Planner. Erin Condren just launched the 2020-2021 line and there is now a daily coiled Life Planner! I’ve been using a planner for 6 years now and haven’t looked back.

  9. Write Everyday In A Notebook Or Bullet Journal.

When you write daily in a journal or notebook, it helps you to destress and declutter your mind. It’s a proven fact that getting everything out of your head and onto paper, no matter how big or small the thoughts may be is super important for your mental health.

My favorite journal is the Leuchtturm Hardcover A5 Dot Grid. The paper quality is amazing, it has numbered pages and an elastic closure. This is highly popular among the bullet journal community.

Hal Elrod talks about this in his book The Miracle Morning. The Miracle Morning is a must read for anyone who struggles on a daily basis with morning routines.

  10. Set Realistic Goals Each Day.

By setting realistic goals each day you are setting yourself up for success rather then piling a ton of tasks you know you could never accomplish in one day.

  11. Read Or Listen To A Book.

Whether you prefer a paper back book, ebook or even a audible book, reading in the morning is not only a great way to help and educate yourself but also it’s relaxing. You could make a list of books you want to read and check them off as you go. My go to is Audible from Amazon.

  12. Listen To A Favorite Podcast.

I don’t know about you but I love listening to inspirational podcasts. More so, podcasts about living a better life along with true crime. The amount of podcasts out there is tremendous, you are bound to find one that fits your listening style.

  13. Get Some Fresh Air.

If you are not the type to exercise such as myself, try to at least sit out front on your patio or deck to do most of your morning routine. I love sitting out front on my bench and writing, blogging and planning my day.

  14. Blogging Or YouTube Video Creation.

If you are working on building a website (blog) or in the early stages of YouTube creation, this is a great time to get some of the work done. Also it’s great for filming and taking pictures with the morning sunlight.

If your interested in starting a blog, check out SquareSpace and their pre made templates. It’s a simple and cohesive platform that is code free (all though you can add codes if need be) and a super easy platform to use. The best part it’s mobile friendly and an app so you can basically do everything right from your phone. I set up my entire blog on my iphone and still do practically everything from my iphone to this day.

  15. Social Media Posting.

Whether you are building your brand, blogging, a influencer or creating YouTube videos then you know the amount of time that goes into social media everyday. Get this done first think. You can also create new blog graphics and repurpose old blog posts.

If you aren’t blogging or on YouTube, you can still create a planner Instagram account and share your planner layouts with the community on Instagram. Also be sure to share your layouts among planners gone wild and we love ec on Facebook.
Wednesday’s: #halfweekhumping (showing a pic of your planner mid week spread)

Sunday’s: #spreademwidesunday (showing a pic of your full weekly planner spread)

  16. Meditate Or Exercise.

It all depends on what you are into. I’m not one to exercise or meditate but a lot of people out there do. So if this is something your into, it’s a great way to get you blood pumping first thing in the morning.

  17. Focus On A Hobby You Enjoy.

I myself like decorating my weekly planner layouts. It’s calming for me and held me to decompress. I also love stamping and coloring with Copic Markers. And most of the time you can turn your hobby into a business. Not only are you doing something you already love, you are inspiring others at the same time.

  18. Start Your Morning Cleaning Routine.

After taking care of the above, now it’s time to start your morning cleaning routine.
Having a set schedule everyday and every week to clean your home is a great practice to instill. This will create habits along with keeping your home in order.

This is what my morning cleaning routine looks like:

  • Start A Load Of Laundry

  • Make The Beds

  • Tidy The Bedrooms

  • Empty And Load Dishwasher

  • Wipe Kitchen Counters And Sink

  • Laundry Into Dryer

  • Pick Up Living Areas

  • Take Any Trash Out

  • Load Dishwasher After Lunch

  • Fold Laundry From Dryer

  • Put Folded Laundry Away

This is what my nightly cleaning routine looks like:

  • Pick Up Toys And Hot Spots

  • Vacuum If Needed

  • Load And Run The Dishwasher
